Boeing to Debut 747-8 on Sunday

More than 40 years after the first 747 debuted, Boeing will roll out the brand new 747-8 Intercontinental on Sunday at its Everett, Washington plant.

So far, Lufthansa and Korean Air are the only major carriers who have placed orders for the commercial version of the 747-8 Intercontinental with a few additional orders from private customers.

Boeing has struggled to generate orders for the commercial version of its largest aircraft since it launched the 747-8 program back in 2005 but with a promise of better fuel efficiency per passenger than its closest competitor, the Airbus A380, getting the plane in the air and delivered to customers could go a long way in enticing new orders.

The 747-8 rollout will be televised live online starting at 1 p.m. EST. Boeing hopes to deliver the first aircraft by the end of the year to a private buyer with deliveries to Lufthansa beginning in 2012.
