Becoming the first major international airline to order Airbus’ re-engined A320neo, Lufthansa announced today that it was ordering 25 A320neos and 5 A321neos expected to be delivered starting in 2016 Reuters reports.
The listed value of the Airbus order is $2.8 billion although airlines generally pay much lower than the list price. Lufthansa also announced that it was ordering five Boeing 777 freighters worth $1.34 billion at list price.
According to Bloomberg, Lufthansa is the fourth airline to order the “new engine option” variant from the A320 family joining Virgin America, IndiGo, and TAM Airlines. So far, Airbus has already racked up 232 orders for the neo variant since the revamped plane was announced back in December.
